A delivery over 200 years in the making.

Two centuries ago, Jacob Beam shared his bourbon by floating barrels of it down the river. Today, we’re doing things a little differently. We’re delivering quality whiskey right to your front door. From the best of small batch to the never before bottled, each box brings bourbons worth sitting with. And worth sharing with friends, family and neighbors.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do taxes work for Barreled & Boxed?

In addition to the cost of each shipment, your order confirmation email will show taxes charged based on your state of residence. In Kentucky, there is an alcohol sales tax (6%), wholesale tax (11%) and state excise tax ($1.92/gallon). In Washington, D.C., the alcohol sales tax is 10.25%.

  2. How does our Barreled & Boxed program work?

Becoming a member of Barreled & Boxed means you’ll receive unique shipments of whiskey from the James B. Beam Distilling Co. We’ll ship you one box every three months totaling four boxes a year. Each shipment will contain two bottles of our most sought after bourbons or newest releases, sent directly from our home to yours.

  3. How long is my membership commitment?

We’re so excited for you to be part of the family and once you’re a member, you’ll continue to receive two of our best bourbons each season. We’d hate to see you go, but if you need to cancel, you can simply contact us anytime.

  4. Can I pause my membership?

You cannot pause your membership or opt out of any individual shipment. If you cancel your membership and the program is sold out, you will need to join the waitlist until there’s another opening.

  5. Are Barreled & Boxed shipments open in my location?

Currently, Barreled & Boxed by the James B. Beam Distilling Co. is only open to consumers in Kentucky and Washington, D.C., living in a territory where alcoholic beverages, including distilled spirits, may be lawfully sold and received. Join our mailing list, and we’ll notify you if we begin shipping to your area.

  6. How do the charges work for Barreled & Boxed shipments?

There is no annual fee to be a member. You can join at any time throughout the year, subject to availability. Each shipment will cost between $150 and $300, subject to change based on the products included in each shipment. The credit card on file will be charged approximately one week ahead of each shipment. The charge will consist of the retail value of the subscription – which includes a flat-rate shipping fee – and any applicable tax applied during checkout. You will receive an email confirming your purchase and then another when the box has shipped with your tracking information.
For any failed credit/debit card payments, we will attempt to reprocess the card for a total of 3 times during 1 business week. After 3 failed re-attempts, you will forfeit the shipment and your membership will be cancelled.

  7. What is the cutoff date for joining Barreled & Boxed?

You can sign up two weeks ahead of each shipping date and still receive the upcoming box. If it’s less than two weeks out, you’ll receive the next seasonal shipment.

  8. Why is a signature required for delivery?

Applicable law requires a signature of someone 21 or older for all deliveries that contain alcohol. Carriers cannot leave shipments on stoops or in doorways.

  9. How will I be notified of my upcoming shipments?

You’ll receive a pre-shipment notification via email prior to each shipment. The email contains important details about the box, including which bourbons will be featured, how much the shipment will cost, when to expect your card on file to be charged and when the package will ship.

Once your package ships, you’ll receive another email with tracking information.

  10. Can I gift a membership to friends and family?

Right now, your billing address and shipping address must match, which makes gifting difficult. That said, once you get the bourbon, it’s all yours to share.

  11. Can I return products I don’t like?

We can’t accept returns, so be sure to watch for announcements about your upcoming box. You can decide if you’d like it or not before it ships. But remember, if you cancel your membership, you lose your spot and cannot opt back in until there’s another opening.

  12. What if my product is damaged?

We’re here for you. Contact us and we’ll help get things sorted out.

  13. How do I contact the James B. Beam Distilling Co.?

You can always come see us at the distillery. But if you can’t make it to Clermont, you can contact us here. We’re always here to help with updating your account, answering questions about a recent shipment, or just shooting the breeze about bourbon.

  14. Are reservations required for my private tour and tasting?

We want to show you around the distillery like you’re family and to do that, we’ll ask that you make a reservation. Please note that the distillery is currently closed for renovations, but we’re excited to welcome everyone to our grand re-opening this fall.
